Assistant Lead Hand – Shipping, Receiving & Inventory Control
The Assistant Lead Hand – Shipping, Receiving & Inventory Control supports daily material movement within a manufacturing environment. This role coordinates shipping, receiving, and inventory control activities that directly support production flow, on-time order fulfillment, and accuracy of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods. The Assistant Lead Hand provides floor-level leadership, trains employees, and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and manufacturing standards.
Shift: Monday to Thursday (7:00 Am to 4:00 Pm, Friday 7:00 Am to 1:00 Pm)
Pay Rate: Between $25.31 to $27.31
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
Shipping
Plan and stage outbound orders based on production schedules; verify pick accuracy and packaging standards.
Create shipping documents (BOL, packing lists, courier labels) and coordinate carrier pickups.
Ensure shipments meet customer requirements and on-time dispatch targets.
Conduct final quality checks; address discrepancies before release.
Receiving
Receive and inspect incoming sheet metal, steel coils, fabricated parts, and raw materials.
Identify damages or shortages; work with Purchasing/Production to resolve.
Direct put-away to proper locations; maintain 5S in receiving areas.
Update system transactions promptly to maintain inventory accuracy.
Inventory Control
Lead daily cycle counts and investigate variances; implement corrective actions.
Maintain bin/location integrity; support stock rotation (FIFO) and lot/serial tracking.
Monitor min/max levels; flag replenishment needs and slow-moving/obsolete items.
Prepare routine inventory reports for operations leadership.
Leadership & Coordination
Assign and follow up on tasks; balance workloads across the team.
Train employees on SOPs, safety, and equipment; reinforce standard work.
Promote a safe workplace; conduct hazard observations and support incident reporting.
Act as point of contact for cross-functional stakeholders (Production, Purchasing, Quality).
Escalate equipment, quality, and schedule risks to the Supervisor/Manager.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
High school or college diploma
2–4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment supporting shipping, receiving, or inventory control.
Experience handling sheet metal, steel coils, or heavy industrial materials is required.
Prior lead hand or team coordination experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment.
Comfort with ERP/WMS transactions (e.g., receipts, picks, transfers, cycle counts).
Comfortable with Microsoft Excel and basic data entry/reporting.
Strong attention to detail; able to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
Solid communication skills and ability to coach.
Valid forklift license/certification; experience with counterbalance and/or reach truck would be an asset.
Frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs; use of forklifts/pallet jacks.
Artificial Intelligence may be used to assist with screening applications for this position.
