SCOPE

The Mental Health Coordinator provides specialized mental health assessment, treatment services, counselling supports, training, and capacity building for Indigenous women and their families. The position is responsible for supporting community members experiencing mental health and addictions concerns through culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centred approaches.

The Mental Health Coordinator provides community development, consultation, coordination of educational and informational sessions, and facilitates access to mental health, addictions, traditional healing, and cultural supports. The position delivers holistic approaches that meet the needs of Indigenous women and their families within an Indigenous Gender-Based Analysis and trauma-informed framework to support mental wellness and healing.

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS:

• Post-secondary diploma or bachelor's degree in Social Services, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience working in mental health services, with responsibility for providing community-based mental health and addiction services.
• Experience working with Indigenous populations in mental health and substance misuse issues.
• Ability to provide evidence-based counselling support services.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
• Proven ability to provide training and education workshops on a variety of topics to address mental health wellness and substance misuse.
• Proficient working knowledge of MS Office software, internet, and general office equipment.

KNOWLEDGE:

• In-depth understanding of psychological, social, and cognitive development.
• Strong understanding of behavioural, emotional, and mental health wellness, diagnoses, and disorders of Indigenous women and their families, including children and youth.
• Awareness of the recent, historical, and intergenerational trauma that Indigenous women and their families may have experienced, including the psychological, neurological, physiological, social, and spiritual impact of trauma.
• Understanding of the principles of cultural trauma-informed care and wise practices in providing trauma-informed care.
• Well-established culturally safe practices and evidence-based counselling support and educational methods and their appropriate applications.
• Professional ethics and approaches to resolving ethical dilemmas in work with community members.
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset.

The full salary range for this role is $56,400- $69,405 ONWA conducts annual performance reviews, and employees may be eligible for salary adjustments based on performance outcomes and available funding.
