Job Summary:
The Senior Database Administrator will lead the migration and administration of Oracle databases as part of a critical Solaris Evergreening project. This role involves transitioning application databases from Solaris infrastructure to supported platforms, upgrading Oracle database versions, ensuring security compliance, and optimizing database performance in large multi-tenant environments. The position requires extensive experience in database design, migration, tuning, and administration across multiple operating systems and cloud/on-premise environments.
Responsibilities:
- Create and implement physical database designs and administer DBMS including optimization, capacity planning, installation, migration, performance tuning, backup, and recovery.
- Maintain and monitor Oracle databases (10g, 11g, 12c, 19c) in large multi-tenant environments.
- Design, build, and configure Oracle Database Servers on Windows, Solaris, and Linux platforms.
- Ensure deployed databases meet performance, security, and auditing requirements.
- Provide technical expertise during design and architecture phases of new solutions.
- Lead and design enterprise Oracle migration projects to version 19c or higher.
- Plan, manage, and coordinate implementation of complex systems and data refreshes in non-production environments.
- Provide expert support for complex database management issues and production systems.
- Support databases in GoCloud and on-premise environments.
- Conduct complex systems analysis and design to ensure successful Oracle migration.
- Assist with implementation of TDE, Data Guard, RAC, OMS, OEM 13c, and replicated database management.
- Document technical work to facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Identify, analyze, and communicate technical risks and provide mitigation recommendations.
- Communicate effectively to evaluate solutions for complex business and technical issues.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in database analysis, design, and administration.
- Experience with Oracle database versions 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c.
- Proficiency in database optimization, capacity planning, installation, migration, performance tuning, backup, and recovery.
- Experience with operating systems including Windows, Solaris, and Linux.
- Strong knowledge of database security and auditing controls.
- Experience with Incident, Change, and Configuration Management procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with information retrieval and query languages.
- Proven ability to coordinate complex technical implementations and provide expert database support.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with distributed data systems, middleware, and gateways.
- Knowledge of cyber security vulnerability remediation.
- Familiarity with Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools.
- Subject matter expertise in data warehouse database design and Oracle OBIEE.
- Experience with automated data distribution mechanisms and object-oriented analysis/design.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture deliverables and Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture processes.
- Experience with technical design, planning, and implementation of patches, maintenance packs, and technology stack upgrades.
- Experience with vendor support services for database administration.
- Experience supporting databases in cloud environments such as GoCloud.
Special Considerations:
- Time-sensitive, high-priority project within FY26/27 operating plan.
- Knowledge transfer expected throughout assignment via meetings and documentation.
- All technical artifacts must be transferred to designated repositories.
