Job Overview

Evolve Learning is seeking a knowledgeable, reliable, and experienced Physics and Math Tutor to provide personalized one-on-one online tutoring to students.

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in physics, preferably as a physics major or in a closely related program with substantial physics coursework. Applicants should also have experience teaching or tutoring high school physics and mathematics.

The tutor must be confident teaching:

  • Grade 11 Physics
  • Grade 11 Functions
  • Grade 12 Advanced Functions
  • Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors
  • Potentially younger middle school and high school students in the future

The successful candidate should be comfortable supporting students who need additional help, as well as high-achieving students who move quickly and require more challenging material.

Duties

  • Provide one-on-one online tutoring in physics and mathematics
  • Teach Grade 11 Physics, Grade 11 Functions, Grade 12 Advanced Functions, and Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors
  • Potentially teach younger middle school and high school students as additional opportunities become available
  • Explain complex physics and math concepts clearly and accurately
  • Develop lessons based on each student’s learning needs and academic goals
  • Help students with homework, assignments, laboratory concepts, test preparation, and exam review
  • Create additional practice questions and challenge advanced students when appropriate
  • Assess student progress and adjust teaching methods when needed
  • Use a tablet, screen sharing, digital whiteboard, or similar interactive technology during lessons
  • Encourage questions, critical thinking, and independent problem-solving
  • Provide clear updates regarding student progress, strengths, and areas requiring improvement
  • Communicate professionally and reliably with students, parents, and the Evolve Learning team

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of high school physics and mathematics
  • Confidence teaching Grade 11 Physics, Grade 11 Functions, Grade 12 Advanced Functions, and Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors, with the ability to potentially support younger students in the future
  • A degree or current university studies in physics is strongly preferred
  • Applicants from engineering, mathematics, education, or another related field may also be considered if they have substantial physics knowledge and experience
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience in both physics and mathematics is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work with students at different grade levels and skill levels, including advanced students
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to explain concepts in multiple ways when a student is struggling
  • Comfortable using computers, tablets, digital whiteboards, and online teaching tools
  • Reliable internet connection and a suitable environment for online tutoring
  • Experience working with diverse learners or students requiring accommodations is an asset
