The Human Resources Business Partner is a trusted partner to leaders and employees across the organization, reporting directly to the General Manager. The role is supporting an employee population of approximately 75 to 150 across the Canadian operations, with additional coordination support for the Mexico division. The role supports the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, health & safety, training and development, compliance, and employee engagement.
The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual will help strengthen company culture, improve HR processes, and support organizational growth while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and best practices.
Responsibilities:
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Act as a primary point of contact for employees and leaders regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns.
- Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on employee relations, performance management, attendance, accommodations, and conflict resolution.
- Support investigations, disciplinary processes, terminations, and workplace issue resolution while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead and manage full-cycle recruitment activities including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviews, reference checks, and offer preparation, with a strong focus on skilled trades, technical, and engineering roles.
- Support workforce planning initiatives in partnership with department leaders.
- Facilitate onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a positive employee experience.
- Maintain recruitment metrics and support continuous improvement of hiring processes.
Performance Management & Employee Development
- Coordinate and support the annual performance review cycle.
- Assist leaders with goal setting, employee development planning, and succession planning initiatives.
- Identify training and development opportunities aligned with business needs.
- Support employee retention and career development initiatives.
Health & Safety & Compliance
- Support workplace health and safety initiatives and ensure compliance with OHSA and company policies.
- Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee activities, workplace inspections, and incident reporting processes.
- Assist with return-to-work programs, accommodations, disability management, and injury/illness reporting.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation including ESA, AODA, WSIB, Human Rights, and applicable workplace regulations.
HR Administration & Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, and programs.
- Track employee training, certifications, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain data accuracy within HR systems and reporting tools.
- Support employee benefits administration including enrollments, changes, employee inquiries, and coordination with benefit providers.
- Assist with HR reporting, audits, and organizational initiatives
- Provide backup coverage for payroll processing as required.
- Coordinate with the HR contact at our Mexico division to support reporting, visibility, and consistency of HR practices across both locations.
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Coordinate employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and company events.
- Support wellness, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve employee experience and organizational effectiveness.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
- CHRP designation or working toward designation is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Ontario employment legislation including ESA, OHSA, AODA, Human Rights, and WSIB.
- Experience supporting employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and workplace investigations.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
