The Community Relations & DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Advisor,leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of community investment and DEI initiatives that positively impact the communities where we live and work and foster a culture of belonging across the organization.
The Advisor provides subject matter expertise and strategic advice on community relations and DEI, works collaboratively across the organization and with external partners to strengthen community relationships, and supports the achievement of measurable social impact aligned with NSLC's social impact objectives.
This is a term opportunity for approximately 12-months.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: The Manager, Social Impact.
Essential Responsibilities
- Leads the implementation and coordination of community investment and partner relations, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs and initiatives that support NSLC's Social Impact objectives.
- Provides advice, guidance and recommendations related to community investment and DEI initiatives, supporting internal stakeholders and external partners in advancing organizational objectives, highlighting reputational risks and opportunities.
- Review, assess, and recommend community investment, sponsorship, partnership, activation and event opportunities, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, partners and diverse stakeholder groups to strengthen community impact and support inclusive practices.
- Responsible for the delivery and continuous improvement of community investment programs including: For the Good of our Community Fund, Regional Giving, and Employee Giving (fundraising, volunteer matching & volunteer benefit).
- Manage annual budgets for community investment and DEI, and provide end-to-end oversight of key community investment programs, including the Employee Volunteer Program, Regional Giving Program, Employee Community Advisory Committee, and For the Good of the Community Fund, including planning, coordination, tracking outcomes and reporting.
- Collaborate across business units (SDC & retail teams) and network channel partners (Agency Network) to identify and promote community engagement opportunities, support key campaigns and increase employee participation.
- Support the development and delivery of DEI priorities and initiatives that advance inclusion and equity, including oversight of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), the Diversity Calendar and related engagement activities, and supporting the integration of inclusive practices across the organization.
- Collaborate with the Learning team to support the development and delivery of DEI-related education and awareness initiatives.
- Prepare content for corporate reporting and presentations, including performance measures and impact reporting on community investment and DEI initiatives, using best-practice approaches to social impact measurement and storytelling.
- Collaborate with business units including the Insights team to support measurement, reporting and continuous improvement of community and DEI initiatives, including tracking progress, identifying gaps and enhancing impact.
- Contribute to annual community investment planning, including campaigns, events and communications planning to support engagement and impact.
- Monitor emerging trends, leading practices and legislative developments related to community investment, DEI and accessibility, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Support the coordination, monitoring and reporting of organizational accessibility commitments and related initiatives.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Acts as an NSLC ambassador at various community events
- Support and oversee the management of community and CSR inquiries (including shared inboxes), ensuring timely response, appropriate triage and escalation
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external partners
- Demonstrate commitment to the NSLC's Purpose, Values and Service Standards, with a clear understanding of NSLC's responsibility mandate
- Travel required, primarily within Nova Scotia, especially during summer months in relation to engagement opportunities (community events, store visits), including occasional work outside of standard business hours to support events and initiatives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
As a qualified candidate, you will have:
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or relevant degree
- 5 to 7+ years in corporate social responsibility, corporate affairs, marketing, or communications role
- Advanced level MS word and Excel skills
- Valid NS Driver's License
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
- Experience using SAP
- Experience in a community investment role
- Experience working in a retail environment and/or public sector entity
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
