Role overview

Job Summary:

The Software Developer role focuses on providing advanced technical development skills within the Transit Operations product portfolio. This position involves designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise applications that support real-time scheduling, fare management, and customer communications for transit operations. The developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration, adherence to architecture standards, and support of critical transit operations systems.
Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver a common applications platform for real-time scheduling, fare, and customer communications ecosystems.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain solution architectures for transit operations applications including Trip Manager, TrainTrac, CCMS, Open API, CAD/AVL, and GO Tracker.
  • Participate in the development and adoption of solution architecture best practices and processes.
  • Communicate technical designs and project progress to stakeholders at various organizational levels.
  • Ensure proper architecture and integration of transit operations systems in alignment with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity guidelines.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and consultation to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate dialogue between business units and technical teams to prioritize objectives and manage expectations.
  • Support operational excellence by identifying and recommending improvements to business processes and policies.
  • Lead change management initiatives related to major projects and transformational plans.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices, market trends, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Certifications:

  • 10+ years of experience developing and implementing enterprise applications using Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET MVC,.NET Framework, Web API/REST, WCF/SOAP, SQL/LINQ/Entity Framework.
  • 5+ years experience with Cloud IaaS and PaaS platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • 5+ years experience designing and developing event-driven microservice architectures for near real-time data processing.
  • Strong SQL coding skills and experience with Java, JSP, JSTL, and Google Tag Manager.
  • Experience with front-end development using HTML5, JavaScript/ES6, React/Redux, and CSS preprocessors.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools including GitHub, Jira, and Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience working in public sector environments.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Basic understanding of SignalR, RabbitMQ, REDIS, MongoDB, or similar real-time data technologies.
  • Experience with Node.js development.
  • Familiarity with CQRS, EventStore, and microservices concepts.
  • Knowledge of OpenStack cloud solution stacks.
  • Familiarity with source control systems used throughout the SDLC.
  • Experience with service-focused management and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation such as the Metrolinx Act, Places to Grow Act, and Municipal Act is an asset.

Special Considerations:

  • Must be able to work in a hybrid environment with 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
  • Experience in public sector projects is mandatory.
  • Role may require communication and coordination with multiple stakeholders including advisory committees and boards.

Scheduling:

  • Standard work schedule with a hybrid model of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week.
