Wood is recruiting for an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer in Training (EIT) with an interest or experience also in Electrical design to join its Minerals & Metals team. This opportunity is based in Trail, BC. This is an entry level position suitable to recent university graduates or graduates with up to 4 years of experience. Final salary will be based on relevant and applicable experience, education, and the specific skill set and qualifications required for the role.

Responsibilities

Typical Responsibilities

  • Work with Senior Engineers and Designers to complete projects and grow your skills in the I&C and Electrical fields
  • Gain an understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code and how to apply it to designs
  • Prepare specifications and datasheets to support construction and equipment procurement packages
  • Complete 2D drafting for I&C packages such as instrument loop diagrams, junction box wiring diagrams, fire alarm system risers and layouts, and PLC and DCS panel layout drawings. Some design work of these packages will also be required
  • Complete 2D drafting for Electrical packages such as schematic and wiring diagrams, single line diagrams, lighting layouts, equipment layouts, and electrical lists. Some design work of these packages will also be required
  • Populate instrument indexes, I/O lists, load lists, equipment lists, and cable schedules
  • Co-ordinate drawing packages for issue and prepare issue folders for electronic files
  • Attend site visits with senior engineers and designers to obtain measurements and collect data

Expected:

  • Electrical Engineering (BSc) degree
  • 0 - 3 years of related engineering experience
  • Everyday use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Effective communication, organization, and time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment. Must have the ability to balance the workload in order to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Team player, but also able to work independently and take responsibility.
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel to local client sites
  • Ability to register as an Engineer in Training (EIT) in the province of British Columbia.

Desirable:

  • Experience with 2D and 3D software (AutoCAD, AVEVA E3D)
  • Database experience (AVEVA Instrumentation and/or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
  • Familiarity using power system software to perform calculations (e.g. ETAP).
