Role overview

Position Summary

KCR Community Resources is seeking a compassionate, organized, and culturally responsive RAP Worker to support Government-Assisted Refugees during their first four to six weeks after arriving in Canada. The RAP Worker provides practical, short-term settlement support based on participant needs and appointments coordinated by the Refugee Assistance Program team. This includes helping participants access essential services, complete applications, understand basic systems in Canada, and connect with appropriate community resources. This is a casual, on-call position requiring flexibility to work based on participant needs, scheduled appointments, and program requirements. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary from week to week.

Key Responsibilities

Participant Settlement Support

  • Assist Government-Assisted Refugees with immediate settlement needs during their first four to six weeks in Canada.
  • Conduct participant needs assessments in collaboration with the RAP team.
  • Support participants with completing applications and accessing essential services, including:
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Canada Child Benefit
  • Medical Services Plan
  • Other settlement-related applications and services
  • Provide orientation and practical support related to basic life skills in Canada.
  • Connect participants with appropriate community resources and services.
  • Accompany participants to scheduled appointments when required.
  • Communicate participant questions, concerns, and emerging needs to the RAP Manager or Coordinator.

Team Collaboration

  • Maintain regular communication with the Refugee Resettlement Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with RAP team members to provide coordinated participant support.
  • Participate as a proactive and reliable member of the RAP team.
  • Assist with additional program-related tasks as required.

Professional Relationships and Boundaries

  • Build respectful and trusting relationships with participants.
  • Treat participants with dignity, patience, cultural sensitivity, and respect.
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.
  • Refrain from lending or giving money to participants, purchasing personal items, running personal errands, or providing advice outside the scope of the role.
  • Exercise sound judgment in matters involving financial, personal, medical, legal, confidentiality, and conflict-of-interest concerns.
  • Maintain participant privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Share participant information only with authorized RAP team members and only as required for service delivery.
  • Ensure participant information is never discussed or shared with unauthorized individuals or members of the public.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic life skills, systems, and community resources in Canada.
  • Experience working with refugees, newcomers, marginalized populations, or individuals facing settlement-related barriers.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with patience, respect, and cultural humility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately to participant needs.
  • Ability to practice effective self-care while supporting participants with complex needs.
  • Additional language skills are considered an asset.
  • Access to reliable transportation may be required depending on participant appointments and program needs.
