Role overview

Job Summary:

The Junior Financial Analyst will apply accounting skills to manage full cycle accounting and financial reporting processes. This role involves preparing journal entries, assisting with month-end close activities, performing financial analysis, and supporting budgeting and forecasting efforts. The position requires collaboration with business units and adherence to internal controls and reporting standards in an onsite office environment.
Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries and assist in month-end reporting.
  • Perform account and bank reconciliations.
  • Support accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), business partner maintenance, and capital assets maintenance.
  • Conduct variance analysis and investigate financial abnormalities.
  • Review and analyze accruals, trial balance accounts, and customer collections.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial operations.
  • Analyze and interpret financial information for internal and external reporting.
  • Collaborate with business entities to gather information for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the finance team.

Required Skills & Certifications:

  • Strong accounting knowledge and experience with full cycle accounting.
  • Proficiency in preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to perform financial analysis and variance investigations.
  • Experience working with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Completion of mandatory training including Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Security/Cybersecurity, Information Management, and Respect in the Workplace.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to commencement.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Knowledge of capital assets maintenance and business partner management.
  • Familiarity with financial dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Additional optional training related to finance or compliance.

Special Considerations:

  • Onsite role requiring work at the Bowker Building N, 6th Floor.
  • Must comply with provincial holidays observed by Alberta.
  • Provision of criminal record checks at no cost to the employer is mandatory.
  • Contracted resource will be provided with office space, computer, furniture, and supplies.
  • Access to Government of Alberta systems and credentials will be required.

Scheduling:

  • Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM Alberta time, with a one-hour lunch break.
  • Holidays observed are those recognized by the province of Alberta.
