Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services, as it relates to behavior and mental health support.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • Demonstrated successful experience as a counsellor in K-12 Education
  • Extensive knowledge of the BC Graduation Plans and ensuring students are progressing on their graduation plan
  • knowledge and demonstrated experience in using MyEd for student information gathering and course planning.
  • extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
  • successful experience with academic and career advisement
  • willingness and experience in leading a School Based Team.
  • demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or have dysfunctional behaviour patterns to attend school regularly
  • demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
  • excellent leadership, organizational and coordination skills
  • proven ability to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in adolescents
  • demonstrated ability to be a case manager and positively advocate for students
  • willingness to work in a collaborative manner with staff, administration, and parents
  • an understanding of bursary and scholarship opportunities and processes to access related information through MyBluePrint
  • extensive experience working with students in care and students on youth agreements·
  • demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
  • experience in all School Based Team processes and being a positively contributing member of SBT
