We are looking for a part-time Corporate Accounting Clerk to join our Finance & Accounting team. If you are a detail-oriented accounting professional looking for a fun, hardworking, and collaborative team that supports learning and continuous improvement, we want to meet you!

Summary:

The Corporate Accounting Clerk is a person with a passion for numbers, is naturally detail-oriented, and has a desire to be accurate and timely. The Corporate Accounting Clerk plays a vital role in the Accounting and Finance team, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant processes that support essential accounting functions and financial reporting. The Corporate Accounting Clerk works closely with corporate accountants and other internal stakeholders to maintain financial records, prepare supporting documentation, and assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end activities.

The Corporate Accounting Clerk reports directly to the Controller.

This is a part-time, 6-month term position, requiring 24 hours of work per week. The term may be extended depending on operational requirements.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in general accounting or bookkeeping, preferably within the property management or commercial real estate sector.
  • Experience using QuickBooks is considered an asset and is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, and general ledger systems required.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a rapidly growing/changing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform a self-review of work before final submission.
  • High degree of comfort in working in a computerized, paperless environment.
  • Computer Skills – intermediate skills using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office programs are required.
  • Communication Skills – ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the organization, both orally and in writing; possesses strong customer service skills and takes a diplomatic approach to successfully building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivable:

  • Supports ccounts accounts receivable processes by preparing recurring and transactional customer billings.
  • Records trust deposit receipts in the appropriate account.
  • Records receipts and applies them against customer accounts.
  • Monitors outstanding receivables balances and assists in pursuing collection.

Accounts Payable:

  • Processes vendor invoices, expense reports, and payment requests in accordance with company policies.
  • Assists with vendor account maintenance, including setting up new vendors and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Processes broker and agent commission billings
  • Initiates payments via electronic payment and/or cheque. Monitors cash balances and keeps the Controller informed.

General Accounting Support:

  • Prepares journal entries under the guidance of the Controller and other Corporate Accountants.
  • Assists with bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintains organized digital and physical filing systems for all accounting records.
  • Supports fixed asset tracking and documentation.
  • Assists with variance analysis and provides insights on budget vs. actual performance.
  • Collaborates with the Accounting and Finance team to identify opportunities for improving the efficiency of accounting processes and supports the implementation of more efficient workflows.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.

Corporate Accounting Support:

  • Supports the preparation of accurate and timely corporate financial reporting, including but not limited to monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting preparation of annual budgets, and financial presentations for Company Town Halls.
  • Assists with annual audit requests by gathering and organizing required documentation.
  • Responds to internal inquiries related to payables, receivables, and corporate accounting data.
