1.0 Permanent Educational Assistant

ECPP - Nipissing Youth Centre: Secure Custody & Detention Centre

Effective September 2, 2026

The Educational Assistant duties of this position are likely to include, but are not limited to, working with students with autism, behavioural exceptionalities, physical and developmental disabilities. The position will involve working as a team member in a special education program, delivering alternative program goals, therapy goals, sensory breaks, communication needs, and outings.

Location: Nipissing Youth Centre: Secure Custody & Detention Centre, North Bay Ontario

Youth within this program have been relocated for custody and treatment reasons and their needs are such that they cannot benefit from programming offered in the regular classroom.

Qualifications:

  • Two-year post-secondary certificate or diploma in the social services field

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex youth who require support with behaviour management and mental health needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team supporting students in their studies along with behaviour management and therapeutic programming
  • Experience working with a variety of student exceptionalities including but not limited to: social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with a variety of support strategies including ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis), Behaviour Management Systems, CPS (Collaborative Proactive Solutions), Trauma-Informed Care and trauma informed practises supporting youth
  • Knowledge and respect of the language and culture when working with First Nation, Metis, and Inuit students.
  • Proven ability to effectively support students in transition and/or implement programming in consultation with classroom teacher and a multi-disciplinary team.

Rate of Pay: $28.44 to $33.38 per hour
