Description
The Team
The BC Wildfire Service Boundary Zone team in Grand Forks supports wildfire prevention, preparedness, and response across the region. The team includes approximately 26 staff, including four fire crews and key support roles such as the Operations Assistant. Employees work in a collaborative, supportive environment that values teamwork, knowledge-sharing, continuous learning, and work-life balance. As part of both the Boundary Zone and the larger Southeast Fire Centre team, staff are encouraged to take initiative, contribute ideas, and play an active role in operational success.
The Role
The Operations Assistant plays a key role in supporting wildfire operations through a mix of administrative, financial, HR, and logistical responsibilities. Duties include cost tracking, budget and invoice processing, HR support, fire season preparation, and coordinating accommodations, meals, and other logistics for crews. No two days are the same. The role offers a unique blend of administrative, financial, operational, and human resource responsibilities while directly supporting front-line wildfire operations and the staff who deliver them. You will gain exposure to a wide range of government systems and processes.
Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Experience working in an office setting.

- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and/or overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
