Location: Work must be done within Canada (Primarily remote; occasional on‐site meetings in Edmonton with reasonable notice).

We are seeking a Front-End Designer for our government client to support cross-functional digital product and service delivery teams. The successful candidate will create evidence-based, user-centred design solutions that align with corporate design standards, accessibility requirements, and business objectives.

The role will involve producing wireframes, prototypes, design systems, component libraries, style guides, and build-ready design specifications across multiple platforms and levels of fidelity. The Front-End Designer will also plan and support design research, conduct usability testing, assess accessibility, and provide clear recommendations to guide design decisions and align project teams, program areas, and senior leadership.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within an agile environment and participate in sprint planning, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives. Design deliverables will be developed iteratively and refined in response to user feedback, business needs, research findings, and emerging technical opportunities.

Scope

Design services and deliverables will evolve throughout the project in response to emerging user needs, business priorities, research findings, and technical opportunities. The following deliverables must be produced iteratively:

  • Creative, evidence-based front-end designs aligned with corporate design standards and methods.
  • Design artifacts across multiple platforms and levels of fidelity, including wireframes, prototypes, reusable design patterns, component libraries, style guides, and build-ready specifications.
  • Design research plans that define research objectives, methods, participants, and expected outcomes.
  • Well-supported design recommendations that help align project teams, program areas, and senior leadership.
  • Active participation in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
  • Usability testing plans and reports assessing the effectiveness of current and proposed designs.
  • Accessibility assessments and recommendations to ensure designs comply with applicable accessibility standards.

Must Have

  • Experience as a Front End Designer designing and enhancing services via web and other channels
  • Experience developing UX artifacts, including streamlined scenarios, storyboards, wireframes, flows and interactive prototypes.
  • Experience working within a cross-functional product team in an Agile environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience building and maintaining component libraries/design systems.
  • Experience exploring multiple design solutions to a given problem or feature, and communicating those solutions visually through sketches, user flows, wireframes, functional prototypes, and/or high-fidelity designs, as necessary.
  • Experience in production design for multiple digital devices (web, mobile, etc.) or complex enterprise applications.
  • Experience using accessibility standards and principles including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • Experience with current methodologies and design thinking, especially in relation to improving service experience.
  • Experience with frontend design applications such as Axure, Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, etc.
  • Experience working as a Front End Designer on a project comparable in size and complexity to the service innovation, program review, and/or digital transformation projects such as the GoA
  • Experience working in a dedicated public sector central digital office (e.g. UK Government Digital Service; Ontario Digital Service; British Columbia Government Digital Experience, GoA Digital Innovation Office or its successors).
