Warehouse Manager

Position Summary

The Warehouse Manager is accountable for ensuring the safe, productive, reliable, and timely execution, monitoring, and analysis of all warehouse and inventory control operations within the Distribution Centre (DC), while supporting all restaurants within the designated region.

This role leads and supports warehouse operations within a 24/7 multi-temperature environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving safety, service, and financial goals through continuous improvement initiatives, innovation, and effective leadership of the warehouse supervisory team, inventory control team, and warehouse employees.

Key Responsibilities

Safety

  • Ensure the safety of all employees and visitors through compliance with Health & Safety policies and provincial legislation.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure all reporting is completed.
  • Develop and administer safe warehouse training programs.
  • Promote health, safety, and wellness initiatives to prevent injuries and accidents.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and address recommendations and concerns.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, and resolve safety-related issues.
  • Ensure implementation of preventative and corrective safety measures.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, and damages, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure supervisors effectively manage modified work programs.
  • Promote environmentally responsible operations.

Leadership, Communication & Employee Relations

  • Provide leadership to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
  • Communicate goals, strategies, results, and operational plans.
  • Participate in training, inspections, investigations, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Promote positive employee relations and engagement.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with union representatives and stewards.

Operations

  • Develop and administer cost-effective operational schedules.
  • Oversee ongoing training for warehouse, inventory control, and supervisory staff.
  • Ensure achievement of departmental operational goals on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Ensure KPI reporting is completed accurately and on time.

Financial Management

  • Manage daily operational expenditures.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including budget variance analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor and control variable departmental costs.
  • Review and approve weekly payroll.
  • Analyze current and future equipment requirements and prepare business cases when necessary.
  • Maintain operational statistics and performance metrics related to employees, inventory, equipment, schedules, and service levels.

Employee Management

  • Lead the hiring, testing, training, and development of supervisors.
  • Oversee recruitment of warehouse and inventory control employees.
  • Develop and maintain training plans and ensure effective implementation.
  • Create and manage departmental work schedules.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support employee development, promotions, and compensation recommendations.
  • Manage attendance programs and job rotation initiatives.
  • Handle employee relations matters, including grievances, discipline, and concerns in accordance with the collective agreement.

Facility & Equipment Management

  • Ensure compliance with industry, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain warehouse equipment and facility databases.
  • Recommend equipment and process improvements that enhance safety, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop facility improvement plans and recommend operational changes to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including SFCR, GFSI, Good Warehouse Practices (GWP), and Good Distribution Practices (GDP).
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree or College diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive warehouse and inventory control management experience.
  • Experience in a high-volume distribution environment is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and high level of initiative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely reports.
  • Must successfully pass a post-offer background check and drug test.
