Compensation:

• Base hourly rate: $49.42/hour
• Hourly rate with rotating shift premium and built-in overtime: $51.85/hour
• Estimated annual base salary: $102,802.48
• Estimated annual salary with shift premium and overtime: $113,242.67

Position Summary

The 2nd Class Operating Engineer is responsible for overseeing the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of stationary engineering equipment and facility systems. This role supports plant safety, production, quality, and cost objectives by monitoring equipment performance, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with applicable provincial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Powerhouse Operations

• Operate and maintain boilers, steam systems, and other powerhouse equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with the Operating Engineers Act, Boiler and Pressure Vessel regulations, and applicable TSSA requirements.
• Monitor equipment performance and report deficiencies to the Chief Engineer.
• Maintain required certifications and operating documentation.
• Participate in 24-hour on-call coverage for boiler emergencies when required.

Plant Equipment and Systems

• Monitor and maintain compressed air systems, nitrogen distribution systems, HVAC equipment, and building automation systems.
• Support the safe operation of refrigeration systems, pumps, motors, and associated equipment.
• Respond promptly to equipment alarms, failures, and other operating issues.
• Execute work orders, corrective actions, and preventive maintenance activities.

Fire Safety and Environmental Compliance

• Coordinate inspections and testing of plant fire protection equipment, fire alarm panels, diesel fire pumps, and electrical generators.
• Support environmental compliance, waste management, emissions documentation, and hazardous material disposal.
• Promote energy efficiency, water conservation, and safe work practices.

Additional Responsibilities

• Identify and report safety, environmental, compliance, and productivity concerns.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, maintenance, and facility management teams.
• Participate in planned shutdowns, statutory holiday maintenance, and special projects.
• Follow a continental rotating day/night shift schedule. Straight day shifts may be available; however, shift coverage for vacations may be required.

Required Qualifications

• Required: Valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certification.
• Required: 8–10 years of experience.
• Knowledge of boiler operations, pressure vessels, stationary engineering equipment, and industrial utility systems.
• Understanding of applicable provincial regulations and TSSA requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, scheduled shutdowns, and statutory holidays as required.
