Position Summary

The Sous Chef plays a key role in supporting the culinary team and ensuring a high-quality dining experience for our guests. This position helps uphold the restaurant’s standards through consistent execution and leadership in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The Sous Chef contributes to the overall success of the restaurant by fostering excellence, collaboration, and commitment to hospitality. This position reports to the Chef de Cuisine, with directions and instructions from Senior Management and the Owners at times.

Position Responsibilities

Selecting, training, and developing a team in tandem with the Chef de Cuisine
Managing inventory, food, and labour costs
Ensuring all meals are prepared and presented according to specifications
Serving as a leader and mentor within the restaurant team to inspire trust and transparency through strong coaching and training
Creating and executing seasonal menu innovation with the Culinary team
Protecting the restaurant and guests by complying with sanitation, safety, and proper food handling procedures.
Preparing and cooking high-quality cuisine that meets the standards of Wentworth Hospitality Group

Experience & Qualifications

Education: Valid BC Foodsafe Certification
Experience: Prior experience in the restaurant industry with proven culinary management and coaching skills
Being self-motivated, organized, and ability to multi-task effectively
Having the ability to work a flexible schedule, days, nights, and weekends
Being punctual and reliable
Having the ability to work varied hours
Having Excellent interpersonal skills with guests and employees
Being able to curate and innovate new menus
Being quality orientated
Being adaptable and flexible
Containing a high energy level

Physical Requirements

The Sous Chef role requires the ability to work on your feet for extended periods, including walking, standing, and navigating stairs in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Candidates must be comfortable working in varying conditions such as heat, humidity, and exposure to kitchen elements. Physical capabilities should include lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. independently, bending, reaching, and using fine motor skills.

Work Schedule

This full-time salaried position generally works eight-hour days. The specific work hours during the workday may be determined through mutual agreement, allowing for flexibility as needed. This position requires employees to work overtime and weekends on occasion, and may be required to respond to emergency situations.
