About the Opportunity

This position works under the general supervision of the Department Leader - Family Services and is responsible for providing behavioural support services to children and families as part of an integrated Early Intervention team. Working collaboratively with FVCDC team members, community partners, and parents/caregivers, the Behaviour Consultant completes behaviour assessments, develops individualized goals and intervention plans, implements evidence-informed behavioural strategies, monitors and documents client progress, and contributes to the overall service plan for each child and family.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborates with integrated Early Intervention team and community partners to identify clients/families who would benefit from Behaviour Consultation Services.
  • Provides a behavioural assessment, when needed, for identified clients, using a family-centered, strengths-based approach.
  • Develops, documents, implements, monitors, and updates Intervention Plans for clients in collaboration with the family and integrated Early Intervention team.
  • Develops behaviour management strategies and provides child specific training and hands on demonstration of behaviour interventions for Parents/Caregivers, FVCDC team members and community partners.
  • Provides support to the Therapy Assistant in implementation of a client’s Intervention Plan.
  • Contributes to quality improvements of the Early Intervention team, which includes collaborating with team members in the development and evaluation of written procedures, standards, and client materials.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, Special Education or Psychology with advanced, specialized training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Certified or eligible to be certified RASP category A or BCBA certification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in assessment, planning intervention and working directly with children with challenging behaviours and developmental delays.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a class 5 driver's license.

  • Effective and professional written and oral communication, including strong listening skills.
  • Exhibited aptitude in time management, task prioritization and organization
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of child development and the impact of diverse abilities on development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family centered practice and relationship-based interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate workshops, meetings, groups etc.
  • Access to reliable vehicle.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of the position

Travel Requirements

This position involves travel throughout the Fraser Valley to provide services in homes, childcare settings, community locations and FVCDC offices. Work-related travel time and mileage are reimbursed in accordance with Centre policies. This position is based in Abbotsford/Mission.
