AGS is looking for a Corporate Accountant to join our dynamic organization.

JOB SUMMARY

The Corporate Accountant is knowledgeable, self-directed, experienced, hard-working, and interested in the automotive industry. The Corporate Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager. The incumbent is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of duties and responsibilities as outlined below in accordance with AGS' cultural priorities. The duties and responsibilities listed below are not meant to be all-encompassing. As business needs change, this list may be adapted. It is expected that the incumbent will participate in meetings, on teams and projects to collectively achieve our priorities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Working primarily with the Accounting Manager (and in collaboration with the Plant Controllers and other Corporate Finance functions) the candidate will be responsible for various financial reporting activities including:

  • Assist with monthly accounting and reporting requirements:
  • Assist the Treasury team with payment processing and payment reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare financial analysis on monthly and quarterly data.
  • Perform other month end closing responsibilities and related reporting.
  • Assist in the coordination of the annual external audit conducted by KPMG:
  • Prepare audit working paper files and communicate with Finance team members and the external audit team.
  • Update and validate various financial process documentation (while continuously looking for improvements) through detailed walkthroughs with financial process owners.
  • Work with Corporate and Plant Finance teams to reconcile and analyze the company's balance sheet items and analysis of related income statement accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of the company's consolidated financial statements and related Notes to Financial Statements.
  • Coordinate efforts with the accounts payable, accounts receivable and related company finance teams to reconcile intercompany accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end tax working papers to support year-end tax provisions and related tax returns for the CDN and US business entities:
  • Work with the Accounting Manager; KPMG and Grant Thornton tax teams; and U.S. tax consultants to gather and prepare supporting year-end tax reports and schedules.
  • Assist with various financial reporting special projects:
  • Assist in improving the integrity of the Fixed Asset Subledgers.
  • Assess the financial and reporting impact of changing the fixed asset depreciation methodology from Declining Balance to Straight Line.
  • Assist in various other projects as they arise:
  • Assist in the co-ordination of the annual consolidated group insurance renewal process.
  • Assist in the co-ordination of the annual inventory appraisal audit conducted by Fifth Third Bank.
  • Work with I/T to implement an efficient contract management process.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2nd or 3rd year university education working towards a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration (with an accounting or finance major).
  • High energy level, with demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and within a group environment.
  • Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills.
  • A solid understanding of accounting concepts.
  • Previous accounting experience (including process documentation experience/courses).

  • Effective communication skills - written/verbal.
