The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is accepting applications for future permanent and/or temporary part-time Canteen Attendants in the Parks, Recreation & Facilities division. As a part-time employee, hours of work are variable and subject to operational requirements. During the regular operating season, employees can expect to be scheduled up to 24 hours per week, with shifts determined in advance. During the off-season, scheduled hours may be reduced and will be determined by operational needs, which may result in limited or no scheduled hours during certain periods.

Job description

Canteen attendants work at various arenas operating canteen equipment.

Essential responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Operation of canteen equipment
  • Maintain concession and equipment in an organized, clean manner at all times
  • Keep items well stocked and displayed in an appealing and organized manner
  • Prepare food and drink products using proper food handling techniques
  • Clean and sanitize concession thoroughly before leaving
  • Sell tickets for public skating
  • Perform and reconcile all cash handling duties as required

Essential qualifications

  • Because of the responsibilities of this position, applicants must be 15 years of age or older
  • Up to 24 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekends as required
  • All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required

Other qualifications

  • Food service background and knowledge in the concession industry would be an asset
  • Knowledge of cash registers and reconciliation of cash would be an asset

Certifications, memberships, licenses

  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification an asset
  • Food Handling Certificate an asset

Work environment/hours of work

  • This position works indoors
  • This position works afternoon, evening and weekend hours

Background check requirements

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment.

Essential physical and/or safety requirements

  • This position works with hot areas (i.e. fryers, grills, etc.)
  • Walking: constant walking on level surface
  • Standing: frequent standing inside (customer service, food preparation)
  • Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement)

Benefits

This part-time position will receive an hourly wage of $18.03 to $18.54 per hour, plus vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
