Description

The Geriatric Mental Health Program is currently seeking a full time, temporary (until July 16, 2027), Registered Practical Nurse to work in the Geriatric Admission Unit A. Reporting to the GAU-A Manager and working within the inter-professional team, you will provide client-centred care to older individuals with mental health and addiction issues. You will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure the security, the safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of client care for clients with mental health and addiction issues. As a member of an inter-professional team, the Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development; and provide education support and supervision to students. You will have sound knowledge of geriatric psychiatry, crisis intervention, and addiction issues. As a RPN, you skills include the ability to make behavioural observations, mental status assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. These positions involve 12 hour shift rotation and weekend work. These position are located at Queen Street site.

Qualifications

You must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). The successful candidate must have medication administration certification. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, particularly related to the care of older persons with mental health and/or addiction issues. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within an inter-disciplinary collaborative team environment. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socio-economic background is also required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second lingual would be an asset.

Salary Range: $32.42-$38.33/hour
