Compensation: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 annually

Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 40, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
This role works closely with the nłeʔképmx Guardians Manager to provide a comprehensive overview of departmental operations, ensuring effective reporting and alignment with our commitments to land and water stewardship. Your responsibilities will include supporting the development of strategies that enhance our initiatives, while also collaborating in the coordination of the Land Guardians' activities. Demonstrating an active role on the land is essential, making physical fitness an asset for this position.
Primary Duties
- Create detailed work plans with the support of the manager to ensure effective on-the ground delivery of the program,
- Support community and leadership engagement sessions, establish training partnerships, and efficiently manage program logistics,
- Provide regular updates on project activities,
- Manage program administration, including timesheets, and diligently track and report onsite activities,
- Carry out activities in the departmental workplan, including fieldwork, monitoring, research, and reporting,
- Collaborate relationships within the community to oversee information, risks, safety measures, data management, and analysis,
- Provide supervision and direction to the nłeʔképmx Guardians staff as needed to ensure alignment with the department work plan, in line with the CNA's overall strategic plan, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the nłeʔképmx Guardians Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to handle multiple projects with tight deadlines and potentially competing interests,
- Self-motivated and possess exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team,
- Knowledge of local ecosystems and species,
- Positive attitude towards implementing health and safety systems,
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, and be adaptable to various competing demands and demonstrate the highest level of competency and confidentiality,
- Knowledge of First Nations heritage, language, traditional and/or cultural resources,
- Willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity,
- Intermediate proficiency Microsoft Office productivity software,
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and
- Strong technical writing skills.
Experience and Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Geology, Biology, Biochemistry, Anthropology or related fields, or relevant experience,
- Proven experience in project coordination, particularly within environmental sectors,
- Experience in research and analysis,
- Experience in liaising, consulting and/or collaborating with multiple stakeholders and/or governments is an asset,
- Experience of 1 -2 years and knowledge of Indigenous Guardians Program is an asset.
- Experience working in a field related to Indigenous relations,
- Experience in working with First Nations, preferably the nłeʔképmx Nation, relating to collaborative stewardship and mineral resource projects,
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS), specifically ArcGIS is an asset, and
- Willingness to travel for work, with a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license, with access to a personal vehicle.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
