Position Summary/Objective:

We are currently seeking an experienced and client-centric Estimator to join our team.

Reporting to the President, you will play a key role in securing new business by preparing accurate, competitive estimates and proposals for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects. This role is responsible for reviewing drawings and specifications, calculating material and labour take-offs, communicating directly with clients, and collaborating closely with project managers to ensure a seamless transition from awarded tenders to project kickoff.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys combining technical expertise with strong client relationships to deliver accurate, competitive project estimates.

Main Responsibilities/Duties:

Assembling Tender Documents including IFT drawings, project specifications and pertinent Tender Forms.

Researching construction documents and analyzing specifications.

-

Studying documentation, meeting with clients, and occasionally inspecting the construction site to fully understand what work is required.

Taking off materials, consumables, equipment and labour for construction projects.

Obtaining subcontractor quotes for some projects then determining suitable packages.

Negotiating with service providers to secure better prices.

-

Outlining the work plan to gauge how much time will be needed to complete each development.

-

Performing risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan.

-

Adjusting profit margin to suit project, client and economic climate conditions.

-

Drafting proposals that detail envisaged materials, costs, and time frames.

Meeting with clients to discuss their thoughts and concerns about our offers.

Ensuring that relevant documents and proposals are submitted before a bid deadline.

Regularly reporting to Management on the project Tender status.

Staying current on the latest estimating technology and industry-related techniques.

Collaborating with other teams, for assistance and advice on Labour related take-offs

Who You Are:

-

Degree or Diploma in mechanical or civil engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field

-

Extensive experience as an estimator in the Miscellaneous Metals or Structural Steel field.

Extensive knowledge of best industry practices and standards.

-

Exceptional time management, multitasking, problem solving and communication skills.

-

Ability to closely collaborate with other project teams and stakeholders.

-

Excellent proposal writing, and oral presentation skills.

-

Ability to negotiate pricing and build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Dependable, conscientious, and well-spoken.

Work Environment:

On-site position in Newmarket, Ontario. Hours 7am-5pm; Monday to Friday
