Position Summary

The Pastry Chef plays an essential role in the culinary team, contributing to the creation of high-quality desserts and baked goods that enhance the overall guest experience. This position supports the kitchen’s operations through precision, creativity, and consistency, while maintaining the standards and vision of the restaurant. This position reports to the Chef de Cuisine, with directions and instructions from Senior Management and the Owners at times.

Position Responsibilities

Preparing and executing high-quality cuisine that meets the standards of Wentworth Hospitality Group
Ensuring all baked goods are prepared and presented according to specifications
Understanding and memorizing all pastry items on the menu
Performing inventory checks and notifying management of supply levels
Being eager to learn and train on the multiple pastry techniques
Creating and engaging in a respectful, professional, and positive workplace
Maintaining an organized and clean prep/work area
Sampling ingredients, mix, and finish products, ensuring standards, quality and created flavor profiles are met
Ensuring production schedules and timelines are met
Prioritizing and ensuring cleanliness in the back of the house
Protecting the restaurant and guests by complying with sanitation, safety, and proper food handling procedures

Experience & Qualifications

Education: Valid BC Foodsafe Certification
Experience: prior experience in a pastry-serving establishment, 1-2 years’ experience is an asset but not necessary
Being self-motivated, organized, and ability to multi-task effectively
Having the ability to work a flexible schedule, days, nights, and weekends
Being punctual and reliable
Having the ability to work varied hours
Having excellent interpersonal skills with guests and employees
Being customer service focus and quality orientated
Being adaptable and flexible
Containing a high energy level

Physical Requirements

The Pastry Chef role requires the ability to work on your feet for extended periods, including walking, standing, and navigating stairs in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Candidates must be comfortable working in varying conditions such as heat, humidity, and exposure to kitchen elements. Physical capabilities should include lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. independently, bending, reaching, and using fine motor skills.

Work Schedule

This full/part-time position generally works eight-hour days. The specific work hours during the workday may be determined through mutual agreement, allowing for flexibility as needed.
