Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer / Automation Specialist with a strong background in PLC Programming, Industrial Automation, and Control Systems Integration to support the design, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automated industrial equipment.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in automation and systems integration, with hands-on expertise in Siemens PLCs, Allen-Bradley PLCs, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Machine Vision Systems.

Experience with Industrial Robotics, Robot Programming, and robotic integration is considered a strong asset.

This position is based in Hamilton, Ontario, and requires travel to customer facilities for automation projects, equipment installation, commissioning, and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, program, troubleshoot, and maintain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including Siemens and Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) platforms.
Design, configure, and integrate HMI Systems for industrial equipment, machine control, and operator interfaces.
Program, configure, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and industrial motor control systems.
Integrate and support Machine Vision Systems for automated inspection, quality control, and production applications.
Perform PLC Troubleshooting, Control System Diagnostics, and debugging of automated manufacturing equipment.
Support Industrial Automation Projects, including equipment startup, testing, installation, and System Commissioning.
Work with electrical, mechanical, and engineering teams to integrate automation equipment and improve system performance.
Troubleshoot and optimize automated machinery, production equipment, and industrial control systems.
Provide on-site technical support during Machine Startups, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and customer installations, as required.
Travel to customer locations to perform On-Site Commissioning, system integration, troubleshooting, and technical support.
Assist with Robotic Automation and Robot Integration projects when applicable.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum 5+ years of experience in Industrial Automation, PLC Programming, or Systems Integration.
Strong hands-on programming and troubleshooting experience with Siemens PLCs and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
Experience with Rockwell Automation and Siemens Automation Systems.
Proven expertise in HMI Programming, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Experience working with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and industrial motor control applications.
Working knowledge of Machine Vision, Vision Systems Integration, and automated inspection technology.
Strong understanding of Industrial Control Systems, automated machinery, and manufacturing processes.
Experience performing Automation Equipment Commissioning, troubleshooting, and system startup.
Ability to diagnose complex automation problems and provide effective technical solutions.
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Industrial Robots, Robot Programming, or Robotic Systems Integration.
Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal, SIMATIC S7, or STEP 7 programming environments.
Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, or FactoryTalk View.
Knowledge of Industrial Communication Protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or Modbus.
Familiarity with Industrial Ethernet, motion control, and automated production systems.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate is a hands-on PLC Programmer, Controls Engineer, or Automation Integration Specialist who enjoys solving technical challenges and working with advanced manufacturing technology.

You should be comfortable independently troubleshooting industrial equipment, developing automation solutions, and supporting system integration projects in a customer-facing environment.

Candidates with experience in Manufacturing Automation, Machine Automation, Process Automation, or Industrial Equipment Integration are encouraged to apply.
