Job Title: Database Administrator (DBA SingleStore / MemSQL) Location: Montreal, QC (Hybrid) Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in SingleStore (formerly MemSQL) to manage, optimize, and support high-performance in-memory database environments. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with SingleStore versions 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x, database performance tuning, monitoring, replication, and automation using Python. Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain SingleStore (MemSQL) database environments.
  • Manage and support SingleStore versions 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x, with a clear understanding of the architectural and feature differences between releases.
  • Monitor database health, performance, and availability using Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Optimize database objects including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures.
  • Configure and maintain database replication and ensure high availability.
  • Work with development and infrastructure teams to resolve database-related issues.
  • Develop automation scripts using Python for database administration and monitoring tasks.
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and database security initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and operational processes.
  • Provide production support and participate in on-call rotations as required.

Required Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience with SingleStore (formerly MemSQL) database administration.
  • Good understanding of SingleStore versions 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x, including key feature enhancements and differences.
  • Experience with Grafana and Prometheus for database monitoring and alerting.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting for automation and database management.
  • Working knowledge of Sybase ASE and database replication concepts.
  • Strong understanding of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) fundamentals.
  • Experience in:
  • Database schema design
  • Tables, Views, Indexes
  • Query optimization
  • Performance tuning
  • Database maintenance
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting mission-critical production database environments.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) configurations.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) is an added advantage.
  • Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure automation is a plus.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with additional relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and monitoring automation.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
