Responsibilities

Reporting to a Research Scientist, you will:

  • Provide technical assistance for projects led by the Environment and Agriculture Research Scientist. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
  • Run analytical lab equipment and support a tissue culture research project. This position may also conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outdoor working environments.
  • Assist the Research Scientist with student supervision while conducting work in the lab.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

-

The minimum education requirement is a diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related field or discipline specific to the specific to the nature of research such as chemistry, biotechnology, natural resources, environmental science, biology, horticulture, or agriculture.

You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes fieldwork.

-

Experience with embryo maturation, germination, and plantlet conversion stages.

-

Experience with cryopreservation or long-term culture maintenance.

-

Experience working with industry partners to complete a project on time and on budget.

-

One (1) year of experience conducting tissue culture techniques, specifically somatic embryogenesis would be considered an asset.

-

One (1) year of occupational experience working in a laboratory environment running analytical equipment would be considered an asset.

-

You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and e-mail.

-

You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.

Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
