Sturgeon Public Schools is currently seeking a Full-Time Temporary Child & Youth Care Worker for a work assignment in Specialised Programming at SCHS. In this role, you’ll work directly with teachers and educational assistants to support students with diverse needs in a nurturing and engaging environment.

As a Child & Youth Care Worker, you play an important role in helping students develop the social, emotional, and behavioural skills they need to succeed both in and beyond the classroom. Through relationship-building, therapeutic support, and collaboration with school teams and families, you help create environments where students can overcome challenges, build resilience, and reach their full potential.

One of Alberta’s largest rural high schools, Sturgeon Composite High School, is located just minutes north of Edmonton and St. Albert. The school serves approximately 950 students in Grades 10–12 and offers a wide range of programming, including academics, arts, Career and Technology Studies, Knowledge & Employability (K&E), and Special Education. With a strong sense of community and a welcoming environment, Sturgeon Composite prepares students for future success through meaningful programs, engaging activities, and dedicated staff collaboration.

What You’ll Be Doing
Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the CYC will:

Observe, assess, and document student behaviours and safety needs

-

Support students during classroom activities and learning routines

-

Teach appropriate life skills and social-emotional strategies

-

Build trust and rapport through meaningful interactions and activities

-

Intervene in crisis situations and maintain a therapeutic approach to behaviour management

-

Provide academic encouragement and support

-

Collaborate with classroom teams in decision-making and problem-solving

-

Help plan or participate in school events and professional learning opportunities
