K’en T’em is seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in archaeology, heritage and history to join our team for the position of Cultural Heritage Technician for this field season, ending in approximately late November. All work is field-based, with the majority of this year's heritage work occurring at the Highland Valley Copper Mine site. Must have own means of transportation. On-the-job training will be provided.

Primary Duties

• Active participation in Cultural Heritage fieldwork:

• Survey (field reconnaissance)
• Monitoring
• Excavation (shovel test pits and evaluative units)
• Assisting Field Directors, Monitors, and Technicians with Cultural Heritage fieldwork,
• Adhering to internal and external health and safety programs and policies,
• Performing all duties in accordance with KTLP policies, standards and procedures,
• Maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to our community,
• Detail-orientated data collection of all work being done throughout the day,
• Working in the field in all weather conditions,
• Working in all types of terrain,
• Assist with and complete office and warehouse tasks, and
• Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Interest in archaeology, natural resources, and cultural resource management,
• Self-motivated and able to work either individually or as part of a team,
• Knowledge of traditional plants, and other plants,
• Be willing to take training as required,
• Positive attitude towards implementing health and safety systems,
• Willingness to learn knowledge of nłeʔkepmx cultural values, nłeʔkepmx protocols, and beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, and
• Recognizes and respects cultural diversity.

Experience and Requirements

• Resources Information Standards Committee BC (RISC), Archaeological Inventory and Culturally Modified Tree (CMT), Training for Crew Members (may be provided for otherwise qualified candidates),
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, hike steep slopes, navigate through deadfall, and lift up to 50 lbs semi-regularly,
• Willingness to travel for work and a valid BC class 5 driver's license,
• Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate preferred,
• Previous GPS, compass, and mapping experience is an asset,
• Previous experience in the cultural heritage fieldwork is an asset, and
• Must be 18 years old or older, in accordance with the Mines Act 3.2.1.,

Required Personal Protective Equipment

• Hi-Vis Vest,
• Steel-toed Boots,
• Gloves,
• Safety Glasses, and
• Hard Hat.

Work Environment

• Schedule: weekly schedule is posted due to fluctuating fieldwork hours, with some weekend work required, on average 40 hours per week,
• Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be paid out at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be paid out at 2x,
• Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K’en T’em office at 1355 Nicola Ave, Merritt BC or 2045 Trans Canada Hwy W, Kamloops, BC (whichever is closer to the successful candidate’s residence), with the expectation that this a field-based position,
• Vacation: paid out bi-weekly at a rate of 4% in accordance to the BC Employment Standards Act ("ESA").
