Our client is a privately owned real estate company with a long-standing portfolio of distinctive commercial properties in Toronto. They are seeking a hands-on Commercial Building Operator to support a landmark multi-building heritage complex in Liberty Village. This is an opportunity to join a close-knit team where you will work across building operations, preventative maintenance, tenant service and general property maintenance in a role with genuine variety.

Your New Employer

This is not a large, highly structured property management company. The organization operates with an entrepreneurial mindset where people are trusted to take initiative, solve problems and pitch in where needed. You will work closely with property management and an experienced maintenance team, with direct exposure to how the entire property is operated.
The property continues to evolve, with boiler replacements and mechanical upgrades underway and more preventative maintenance being brought in-house. For someone who enjoys learning, taking ownership and working across a broad range of building responsibilities, there is plenty of opportunity to expand your capabilities.

Your Role

Reporting to property management, you will help keep the complex operating safely, efficiently and responsively. You will complete regular building rounds, respond to tenant service calls, troubleshoot HVAC and mechanical issues, support preventative maintenance and work alongside contractors and trades.
Your day could include investigating a hot/cold complaint, changing heat pump filters, checking emergency lighting, troubleshooting a lock or door closer, supporting a tenant move, pressure washing an entrance, or helping an HVAC contractor diagnose rooftop equipment. Seasonal exterior responsibilities also include grounds and irrigation maintenance.
This is a true hands-on operator role. The team is looking for someone who enjoys a mix of technical and practical work, takes initiative, and doesn't need every task to fit neatly within a traditional job description. The anticipated schedule is Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing later-day coverage for the property. There is no regular on-call rotation, although in the past, there has been an occasional after-hours call, or weekend project work may arise.

What Sets You Apart

You have approximately three (3) or more years of meaningful hands-on commercial building operations, maintenance or related building systems experience. More important than a specific number of years is your practical understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems and your ability to work through common building issues without needing step-by-step direction.

You are a self-starter who notices what needs attention and follows through. You are comfortable dealing directly with tenants, working with contractors and moving between mechanical troubleshooting and straightforward physical maintenance tasks. You understand that in a smaller entrepreneurial organization, everyone contributes where needed.

Compensation

Expected annual compensation of $65,000 to $72,000. The company also provides an RRSP contribution after one year of service. Compensation will reflect the successful candidate's experience and capabilities.
