Position Overview

Lambert Nemec Group, Winnipeg's leader in Permanent Accounting & Finance Recruitment, has partnered exclusively with Ag Quest and Rourke Farms in the search for an experienced and detail oriented Controller. This is a fully in office role based at the companies' head office just outside Minto, Manitoba. The Controller will lead the financial function for three well established, family owned agricultural companies and their subsidiaries, working closely with the Executive team and receiving hands on mentorship from the current finance leader. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to grow into a senior leadership role within a stable, reputable organization.

Responsibilities

The Controller will be responsible for:

• Overseeing day to day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing and bank reconciliations

• Partnering with the Accounting Clerk(s) to ensure accurate and timely completion of semi monthly payroll, tax filings and government remittances

• Designing, implementing and maintaining strong internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets

• Ensuring ongoing compliance with GST, payroll and corporate tax regulations

• Managing government reporting requirements, including SRED claims

• Taking ownership of the companies' banking relationships, credit facilities and overall financial portfolio

• Collaborating with the Executive Assistant on administration of the employee benefits plan, RRSP and DPSP programs, as well as workers compensation and EI

• Conducting internal audits to monitor financial health and providing insight to the accountant and Executive team

• Supporting broader organizational goals through cross functional collaboration and other duties as required

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in accounting, business or a related field

• Minimum five years of relevant experience spanning accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, auditing, payroll and financial services

• Hands on experience with QuickBooks and strong proficiency in MS Office

• Solid understanding of payroll administration and core accounting principles

• Valid Class 5 driver's license, as occasional travel to the bank and accountant's office is required

• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills and time management

• Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities

• Confident communicator able to liaise with coworkers, the Executive team, clients and outside vendors

• Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small, close knit team in a fast paced agricultural environment

Location

This is a fully in office position based at the head office just outside Minto, Manitoba, with no opportunity to work from home. Some travel is required for banking purposes and meetings with the accountant, and occasional out of province travel may be required for annual general meetings. Must live within commuting distance to be considered for this role. #LI-Onsite
